The Wisdom & Compassion of the Buddha:Meditation Retreat on Buddha Shakyamuni with Lama Laia
BelleMeade Plaza location
4544 Harding Pike, Suite 201
Over 2,600 years ago, Buddha Shakyamuni gave teachings on how to remove the causes of all suffering and difficulties, and to reveal the essential goodness of ourselves and others. During this retreat, we will learn about the life of the Buddha and reflect on his vital teachings of activating and actualizing our innate wisdom and loving kindness for the benefit of all beings. We will meditate according to the Blessing Treasure: A Sadhana of the Buddha Shakyamuni by Mipham Rinpoche, as it is taught by Venerable Khenchen Palden Sherab Rinpoche and Khenpo Tsewang Dongyal Rinpoche, great Nyingma masters and scholars who founded the Padmasambhava Buddhist Center which has chapters in over 20 cities in the USA, Russia, Canada, and Puerto Rico, plus monasteries in India, Russia, and at their main monastery and retreat center Padma Samye Ling in upstate New York.
The concluding day of retreat (Sunday, November 20) is Lha Bab Duchen, which marks one of the 4 special Buddha days, or Festivals (duchen), that relate to the life of Buddha Shakyamuni. During these days, it is said that the effects of positive and negative actions are multiplied 10 million times, so practice is strongly encouraged. Lha Bab Duchen commemorates Buddha Shakyamuni‰۪s returm to the human world after teaching his mother in the god realms, where he spent 3 months giving teachings and repaying her kindness. We will celebrate together by reciting the Buddha Sadhana, Twelve Deeds in the Life of the Buddha, Short Dharmapala Practice and white tsok celebration with light and flower offerings.
