Dzogchen Togal Instructions by Lama Shabkar Natsok RangdrolOne Month Dzogchen Retreat at Padma Samye Ling
with Venerable Khenpo Tsewang Dongyal Rinpoche
March 25 – April 22, 2017
Those who have completed their Ngondro Preliminary practices, and have the necessary prerequisites are able to attend this One Month Retreat on extensive Dzogchen teachings and practices of Togal “Leaping Over” led by Ven. Khenpo Tsewang Rinpoche according to teaching by Lama Shabkar Natsok Rangdrol.
Togal (Tib. ˆ_ˆ__ˆ_Ԉ_܈_¢ˆ_Ո_£ˆ_Ü, Wyl. thod rgal) is one of the two aspects of Dzogchen practice, along with Trekcho. Togal, translated as “direct crossing,” “the direct approach,” or “leaping over,” can bring very quickly the actual realization of the three kayas in this lifetime, and thus is a more rapid way of bringing about the dissolution of the practitioner‰۪s karmic vision. The practice of Togal brings the realization of “spontaneous presence” (Tib. ˆ_£ˆ_áˆ_«ˆ_҈_܈_âˆ__ˆ_«ˆ_Ј_Ü, lhundrup), and it can only be undertaken by a practitioner who has first gained stability in the practice of kadak Trekcho.
Lama Shabkar was a venerated and loved yogi whose life exemplified Milarepa, of whom he is held to be a reincarnation.
Shabkar was born in the province of Amdo in north eastern Tibet during the last century. Ordained as a Gelug monk, the great yogi Shabkar was renowned for his teachings on Dzogchen, the heart practice of the Nyingma lineage. He wandered the countryside of Tibet and Nepal, turning many minds toward the Dharma through his ability to communicate the essence of the teachings in a poetic and crystal-clear way.
Following in the footsteps of the ancient lineage of Nyingmapas, we will put these rare and precious teachings into practice with joy and devotion. Held in noble silence, this retreat is arranged to provide a space to receive the pith instructions and deepen personal Dzogchen meditation with the guidance of Ven. Khenpo Tsewang Dongyal Rinpoche.

As you all know, Hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico quite hard. In fact it was the strongest and most destructive hurricane to strike the island since 1928. We have heard from a few Sangha members in Puerto Rico who let us know that they are safe even though the devastation is major. However, we have not heard from everyone. So, we are very concerned. Please keep them in your prayers.
We’d like to help at least our Sangha members to recover as much as we can. Please consider donating toward a fund we have set up to assist in relief and recovery after this incredibly destructive storm.
Your tax deductible donations can be made payable to “Padmasambhava Buddhist Center” with “Compassionate Action Fund” in the memo. Please mail check or money order to:
