Immersion Weekend of Tibetan Buddhist Art and Stupa Painting! – July 16 and 17 – Padma Samye Ling

July 16 - July 17

Ven. Khenchen Palden Sherab Rinpoche and Ven. Khenpo Tsewang Dongyal Rinpoche have called Padma Samye Ling the “Samye of the West.” With the inspiration and blessings of the first monastery in Tibet, the main temple at PSL was designed in three tiers to include the main meditation shrine room, a 2nd floor library, and a third floor dharmakaya shrine to house precious relics. We used professional craftspeople with expertise in Tibetan mural painting and carpentry. PSL is a living monument to all the lineage masters of India and Tibet, the established tenets of the Dharma, and all the Councils and Turnings of the Wheel of Buddhism.

We’re inviting Dharma students, art students, and everyone interested in Tibetan culture and monastic traditions to join us for a weekend of learning and discovering the refined elegance and power of Tibetan art, and to paint sacred stupas that embody the wisdom and compassion of all the buddhas!

This “in person” course will be led by two students who are accomplished artists and have contributed beautifully to the elegance and beauty of PSL mandala, located on 500 acres of pristine forests, meadows, and hermitage buildings in the western foothills of the Catskill Mountains.

The weekend will include a short introduction to the tradition of Tibetan Buddhist art based on the extraordinary mural paintings in the main temple shrine room, a temple tour, personal painting instruction, and stupa painting!

Theresa Savage Cooper is a longtime student of Ven. Khenpo Rinpoches who has created artwork for PBC books, as well as painting the portrait of Ven. Khenchen Palden Sherab Rinpoche within the PSL mural paintings.

Margo Bryen Peterson is a contemporary artist who has contributed beautiful design elements throughout PSL.

Supplies will be provided for a Tibetan art drawing class and stupa painting.

Everyone is encouraged to arrive Friday night.

Classes begin Saturday morning, with multiple sessions throughout the weekend. Painting concludes Sunday evening at 6pm.

PBC members: $60; $36/day
Non-members: $72; $41/day
