“All the great teachers and practitioners of the past have mentioned, one after another, that we have to prepare ourselves and make ourselves ready. Since beginningless time until we met the Buddha‘s teaching, one habit after another has turned us in various directions. In a way, we’ve completely spoiled ourselves and mixed ourselves up in many different ways. But by meeting the teaching of the Buddha and Guru Padmasambhava, we are coming back—or at least trying to come back—to our own natural state. That’s why we have to make ourselves ready.
Readiness is also important in observing the teachings. Readiness not only means preparing ourselves, but naturally being ourselves—just being ordinary. Considering all the many beautiful qualities you have in this life will bring you back to your own natural state. Recalling the preciousness of your life, your time, and situation are all necessary to remember again and again. And at the same time, have great joy and appreciation for every beauty, every ingredient, and every circumstance that surrounds you.”
